Heat recovery monitoring and controls
ThermStar™ Power Intelligence monitoring can coordinate circulation, valves, sensors, operating sequences, alarms, and permitted equipment interfaces. Control logic responds to the availability of source heat and the receiving load so that the recovery equipment operates within the approved configuration.
Operational visibility
An energy monitoring system should show meaningful operating conditions without burying anyone in raw data. These are the readings, what each one tells you, and where the value comes from.
| Measured | What it tells you | Source of the value |
|---|---|---|
| Source air temperature, in and out | Energy available, and how much was taken | Field sensors |
| Loop supply and return temperature | What the circuit is actually carrying | Field sensors |
| Fluid flow | Circulation against the design case | Field sensors |
| Equipment status and alarms | Whether it is running, and why not | Control logic |
| Operating time and overlap | Hours the source and the demand coincide | Control logic |
| Calculated thermal energy | The figure an incentive process asks for | Approved M&V method |
Trends, not just numbers
The platform organises temperatures, flows, equipment status, alarms and trends so operations and maintenance teams can review what the system is doing and spot conditions that deserve attention.
Measurement and verification of energy savings
Recovered thermal energy is calculated from approved sensor inputs and methods. The methodology, sensor accuracy, baseline and reporting period should match the project and any applicable program rules.
Agree the method
Which calculation, which inputs, which baseline, before anything is installed.
Instrument to it
Sensors placed and rated for the accuracy the method assumes.
Establish the baseline
What the facility used before, over a period the program will accept.
Report the period
Operating data connected to the energy delivered, for the reporting period agreed.
Data management and connections
Data access, storage, dashboards, notifications and available features depend on the approved offering. There are two ways to look at the same system.
The ThermStar platform
Its own dashboards, notifications and stored history, set up for the roles that need them.
Into your existing BMS
System information inside the facility environment the site already runs, when coordinated visibility matters more than a second dashboard.
Documentation and reporting
Verification helps finance, sustainability, utilities and programme administrators understand actual operation after startup.
Operating summary
Status, availability and alarms over a chosen period. For operations and maintenance.
Recovered energy report
Calculated thermal energy under the agreed method, with the inputs it was derived from.
Performance against baseline
What the facility used before, what it uses now, over a comparable period.
Programme submission pack
Assembled to the administrator’s stated requirements where the method is approved.
Define the right monitoring scope
The appropriate controls and data package depends on the system, facility standards, user roles, cybersecurity requirements, incentive needs, and desired reporting. ThermStar will define the available scope during configuration and proposal development.
What happens next
A first conversation helps ThermStar understand the operating goal, the facility context, and the people involved in the decision. From there, the team can identify the smallest useful information request and determine whether a screen, technical review, partner discussion, or document request is appropriate. This approach keeps the process proportionate to the opportunity while giving operations, finance, engineering, health and safety, and sustainability stakeholders clear information for the next decision.
Can ThermStar Power Intelligence connect to an existing BMS
Yes. The platform can connect to an existing building management system when the customer wants system information within its broader facility environment. Data access, dashboards, and notifications depend on the approved offering and the facility's cybersecurity requirements.
Can monitoring cover more than one recovery loop or load
Potentially. A configuration may consider one or more receiving loads when their temperatures, capacities, schedules, locations, and control needs align with the available source. ThermStar evaluates the combined operating case before recommending an arrangement.
How does ThermStar Power Intelligence measure recovered energy
It calculates recovered thermal energy from approved sensor inputs such as fluid flow, temperature difference, operating time, and equipment status. The methodology, sensor accuracy, baseline, and reporting period are matched to the project and to any applicable program rules.
Is monitoring required on every ThermStar installation
Not in one fixed form. The controls and data package is defined for each project, based on the system, facility standards, user roles, cybersecurity requirements, incentive needs, and desired reporting. ThermStar sets the available scope during configuration and proposal development.
Can ThermStar Power Intelligence be monitored remotely
Yes. ThermStar™ Power Intelligence offers secure remote access from a web browser or mobile device, with role-based permissions so each user sees what their role needs. What is monitored, who has access and how it connects to site systems are agreed for each project.
